About Dr. Mel
Hi, I'm Dr. Melody Milam Potter. After high school I trained, and then practiced, as a nurse for more than a decade to put myself though university and graduate school to become a Clinical Psychologist.
In 30 years of private practice, I have helped hundreds of patients and evaluated nearly two thousand mentally disabled war veterans. I developed specialties in several areas including functional medicine, relationships, coping skills, positive psychology, brain development. I have written several books now available on Kindle.
Declining health recently led me to close my practice, giving me the opportunity to write every day, both for my own passion and to continue to help others. I have always felt drawn to writing. It gives me a way to organize my thoughts and provide information to my patients. I realize I can reach so many more people with the written word, than one at a time in the office. I have learned many ways to get past the obstacles of life and I am here now to share that knowledge.
My husband and I live in the country miles from a town and we love animals. We've adopted horses, birds, guinea hens, chickens, cats, ducks, geese, quail, dogs, and other miscellaneous pets, many of whom came from circumstances of abuse or neglect. I work with a large Parrot Sanctuary that finds homes for surrendered and abandoned birds. 32 green, blue, yellow, purple, gray and white parakeets sing all day in my aviary. Our other animals pretty much run mine and my husband's life. We are a family.
This is Poppy, our umbrella cockatoo. We adopted him from the Exotic Bird Sanctuary I work with. Poppy doesn't know he's a bird, he thinks he's a small child. He's smart, and loving, but pretty spoiled.
